The Coombs family has just gone to great extent to do DNA testing and further research (2013). It is confirmed....now here is my previous review.

Yes it's not "proof" of history but I absolutely enjoyed all of the stories and work that went into this compilation. I am an ancestor of Anthony Coombs, his son Anthony Coombs, his son Anthony Coombs, his son Anthony Coombs, his son Ephraim Coombs, his son Mark Anthony Coombs, his son Isaiah Moses Coombs, his son Mark Anthony Coombs, his son Morgan Scott Coombs who was my great grandpa. Did I get that right? About 100 years after this book was compiled a lot of the information checks out through documents that we can get currently. I loved it! I would love to hear from more ancestors too.

Much of the family structure information in this book is of use as a starting point for doing additional research. Unfortunately, Mr. Coombs' research is totally undocumented and rife with errors. Therefore, all of the data cited needs to be independently verified before being accepted as fact.

Also, the author spends a great deal of time and effort creating a romantic "French" origin for Anthony Coombs based on oral traditions that cannot be supported by the available facts. There is no documented data concerning Anthony prior to 1684. And there centainly is no reason to believe that a "Frenchman" who could not sign his name to any of the existing documents (Anthony signed by making his mark) would have been able to read an English Bible and therefore run away to America.
